Welcome to our latest blog column, where we delve into the art of interior design tailored specifically for small spaces. Whether you're living in a cozy apartment or a compact home, maximizing space without sacrificing style is an achievable goal. In this column, we'll explore practical tips, clever tricks, and creative ideas to transform even the tiniest of spaces into functional and beautiful retreats.

Declutter and Organize:

The first step in maximizing any small space is to declutter and organize effectively. Embrace the less-is-more mantra by streamlining your belongings and investing in smart storage solutions. From sleek shelving units to hidden storage ottomans, there are countless ways to keep clutter at bay without compromising on style. Remember, a clutter-free space not only looks larger but also feels more serene and inviting.

Choose the Right Furniture:

Selecting the right furniture is crucial in small space design. Opt for pieces that are appropriately scaled to fit your space, avoiding oversized items that can overwhelm the room. Embrace multi-functional furniture, such as sofa beds and nesting tables, to maximize versatility without sacrificing style. With careful consideration and strategic placement, each piece of furniture can serve multiple purposes, making the most of every square inch.

Utilize Vertical Space:

When floor space is limited, don't forget to look up! Utilizing vertical space is key to maximizing storage and visual appeal in small rooms. Install floating shelves to display decor and keep essentials within reach, or opt for tall bookcases to take advantage of unused wall space. By thinking vertically, you can create the illusion of height and openness, transforming even the smallest of rooms into airy sanctuaries.

Embrace Light and Color:

Lighting and color play pivotal roles in small space design. Maximize natural light whenever possible, keeping window treatments minimal to allow sunlight to flood the room. Choose light, neutral colors for walls and furniture to create a sense of openness and airiness. Additionally, incorporate strategic lighting solutions, such as sconces and pendant lights, to illuminate dark corners and enhance the overall ambiance of the space.

Create Zones and Visual Interest:

In small spaces, creating distinct zones for different activities is essential to maximizing functionality. Use area rugs, furniture placement, and room dividers to delineate separate areas for lounging, dining, and working. Experiment with texture, pattern, and focal points to add visual interest and personality to your space, ensuring that each zone feels cohesive yet distinct.

Scale Down Decor:

When it comes to decor, less is often more in small spaces. Choose decor items thoughtfully, opting for pieces that add personality without overwhelming the room. Incorporate mirrors to reflect light and create the illusion of depth, or showcase artwork that draws the eye upward. By scaling down decor and embracing minimalism, you can create a harmonious and visually appealing space that feels both cozy and curated.

Hope This Helped:

With a thoughtful approach and a dash of creativity, small space design can be both rewarding and inspiring. By decluttering and organizing effectively, choosing the right furniture, utilizing vertical space, embracing light and color, creating zones and visual interest, and scaling down decor, you can transform even the most compact of homes into stylish and functional retreats. Stay tuned for more tips, tricks, and inspiration in our ongoing column on small space interior design. Until next time, happy decorating!

Embracing the Season: Interior Design Tips for Springing into Summer

Posted by Emily Stricklin on Mar 8, 2024 3:51:51 PM

As the vibrant hues of spring slowly give way to the warm embrace of summer, there's an undeniable shift in the air. It's a time of renewal, of shedding the layers of winter and embracing the lightness and freshness that comes with the changing seasons. And what better way to celebrate this transition than by infusing our living spaces with the same energy and vibrancy?

As an interior design enthusiast, I've always found joy in transforming my home to reflect the beauty of each season. And with spring gracefully segueing into summer, I've been eagerly planning and implementing some refreshing design changes to welcome the sunny days ahead.

One of the simplest yet most effective ways to usher in the spirit of summer is by playing with color. Just as nature bursts into bloom with an array of vibrant shades, our interiors can benefit from a similar infusion of color. This season, I'm opting for soft pastels and pops of lively hues like coral, aqua, and lemon yellow to evoke a sense of freshness and vitality. Swapping out throw pillows, curtains, and even artwork in these cheerful tones instantly breathes new life into any space.

Of course, no summer-inspired design would be complete without bringing a touch of the outdoors inside. Natural elements such as fresh flowers, potted plants, and botanical prints effortlessly bridge the gap between interior and exterior, creating a seamless transition between the two worlds. I've been adorning my home with lush greenery and floral arrangements, not only to add visual interest but also to infuse the air with the invigorating scent of nature.

As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, it's essential to create a cool and inviting ambiance within our homes. Lightweight fabrics like linen and cotton are perfect for draperies and upholstery, allowing for ample airflow and a relaxed, summery feel. I've also been incorporating sheer curtains to maximize natural light while still maintaining a sense of privacy—a small yet impactful change that instantly brightens up any room.

When it comes to accessorizing, less is often more during the summer months. Opting for minimalist decor pieces and decluttering surfaces not only creates a sense of openness but also allows key design elements to shine. I've been selectively curating my space, choosing statement pieces that evoke the laid-back elegance of summer—think woven baskets, rattan furniture, and textured ceramics that add depth and character to my home.

Lastly, let's not forget the transformative power of light in shaping our perception of space. As we bid farewell to the subdued lighting of winter, now is the time to embrace the natural light that floods our homes during the summer months. I've been swapping out heavy curtains for sheer alternatives and strategically placing mirrors to reflect and amplify sunlight, creating an airy and expansive atmosphere that feels both refreshing and rejuvenating.

In essence, springing into summer is all about embracing the essence of the season—light, warmth, and vitality—and translating it into our interior spaces. By infusing our homes with the colors, textures, and elements that define this time of year, we can create a haven that not only looks beautiful but also feels like a breath of fresh air. So, as we transition from one season to the next, let's open our hearts and homes to the boundless possibilities of summer and allow its spirit to inspire and uplift us every day.

Talk to you guys soon,

Emily

Hey there, everyone! I’m Emily Stricklin, thrilled to introduce myself and shed some light on our wonderful team at Gamble Home Design. Over the past 3 years, I've had the pleasure of serving as an Interior Designer with Gamble Home. My passion lies in crafting spaces that marry style with functionality.

A graduate of Harding University, I leverage my background in art and interior design to collaborate with clients, tailoring environments that not only mirror their unique tastes but also enhance the functionality of their living spaces. Outside of work, you'll find me cherishing moments with my husband and our beloved fur babies, Opie and Avery.

Art and design have been integral parts of my life since childhood, inspired by my mother's artistic prowess. As an elementary art teacher and talented artist herself, she instilled in me the value of observing and engaging with the world around me. Through her guidance, I learned to utilize art and design as a means of emotional expression and escape. This creative outlet has remained a constant source of solace and self-discovery throughout my journey into adulthood.

I’m eager to connect further with you all in the future, but for now, that’s a wrap from me!

Warm regards,
Em

Hi everyone! I'm Kolby an Interior Designer at Gambles Home Design group, and I couldn't be more thrilled to embark on this journey with you! Dive in with me where creativity meets comfort, and every corner tells a story.

For as long as I can remember, I've been enamored with the artistry of space – how a room can reflect not just personal style, but also evoke emotions, and memories. Whether it's the gentle curve of a well-crafted chair, the interplay of light and shadow dancing across walls, or the subtle harmony of colors converging in perfect balance, there's a magic in every detail waiting to be discovered.

Growing up, I was the kid who constantly rearranged furniture in my room, seeking that perfect harmony of form and function. What started as a childhood fascination evolved into a lifelong love affair with interior design.

For me, design isn't just about aesthetics; it's about storytelling. Each room is a canvas, and every element – from the furniture to the smallest décor piece – has a tale to tell. I thrive on weaving these narratives together, creating spaces that not only reflect my clients' tastes but also resonate with their emotions and aspirations. It's about turning houses into homes and transforming mere rooms into havens of comfort and expression.

My approach to design is deeply personal. I believe that the key to crafting a truly remarkable space lies in understanding the people who inhabit it. That's why I take the time to listen, to learn the stories behind the spaces, and to infuse every design with a touch of the client's unique essence.

So, whether you're seeking inspiration for your next project, looking to revamp a tired space, or simply want to immerse yourself in the world of design, I invite you to join me on this adventure. Together, let's unlock the potential of every space and discover the beauty that lies within.

Talk soon,

Interior Design Ideas: Inspiration for Every Room in Your Home

Posted by Kaula McLaughlin on Jan 11, 2024 6:50:24 PM

Discover creative interior design ideas and inspiration for every room in your home. From the living room to the bedroom, our blog post provides expert tips and advice to help you transform your space into a stylish and functional sanctuary.

Creating a Welcoming Living Room

Creating a welcoming living room is essential for any home. Start by choosing a color scheme that promotes relaxation and comfort. Soft neutrals like beige, gray, or cream can create a calming atmosphere. Consider adding pops of color through accessories or artwork to add visual interest.

Next, focus on furniture placement. Arrange seating areas to encourage conversation and create a cozy ambiance. Use rugs and curtains to define different zones within the room. Don't forget to incorporate ample lighting, including both ambient and task lighting, to create a warm and inviting space.

Accessorize your living room with decorative items that reflect your personal style. This could include artwork, plants, or unique statement pieces. Finally, make sure to keep the space organized and clutter-free to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Designing a Relaxing Bedroom

Designing a relaxing bedroom is essential for a good night's sleep. Start by choosing a soothing color palette, such as soft blues, greens, or neutrals. These colors promote relaxation and create a calming atmosphere.

Invest in a comfortable mattress and high-quality bedding to enhance your sleep experience. Consider adding blackout curtains or blinds to block out any unwanted light and create a peaceful environment.

Create a designated relaxation area within your bedroom by adding a cozy reading nook or a comfortable armchair. Incorporate soft lighting options, such as bedside lamps or dimmer switches, to create a tranquil ambiance.

Lastly, declutter your bedroom and keep it organized to promote a sense of calm and serenity. Remove any unnecessary items and create storage solutions to maintain a peaceful space.

Revamping Your Kitchen with Style

Revamping your kitchen with style can completely transform the heart of your home. Start by considering the overall layout and functionality of your kitchen. Optimize storage space by using clever storage solutions like pull-out cabinets or overhead racks.

Choose a color scheme that reflects your personal style and complements the rest of your home. Whether you prefer a modern monochromatic look or a colorful eclectic vibe, make sure the colors are cohesive and create a harmonious atmosphere.

Upgrade your appliances to more energy-efficient options to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Consider adding a focal point, such as a stylish backsplash or a statement lighting fixture, to add personality and visual interest to your kitchen.

Lastly, don't forget about the details. Add finishing touches like decorative hardware, stylish faucets, and unique countertop accessories to elevate the overall look and feel of your kitchen.

Transforming Your Bathroom into a Spa

Transforming your bathroom into a spa-like retreat can provide a sanctuary for relaxation and self-care. Start by choosing a calming color palette, such as soft blues, greens, or neutrals. These colors promote a sense of tranquility and peace.

Upgrade your shower or bathtub to a luxurious option that enhances your bathing experience. Consider adding features like a rainfall showerhead, a whirlpool tub, or a steam shower for an extra touch of luxury.

Incorporate natural elements into your bathroom design, such as plants or stones, to create a spa-like atmosphere. Invest in soft and plush towels, robes, and bath mats to enhance the feeling of comfort.

Don't forget about proper lighting in your bathroom. Install dimmer switches or add candles to create a soft and relaxing ambiance. Consider adding a mirror with built-in lighting to enhance your grooming routine.

Lastly, declutter your bathroom and keep it organized to maintain a spa-like feel. Use storage solutions like baskets or shelves to keep toiletries and towels neatly organized and easily accessible.

Maximizing Space in Small Rooms

Maximizing space in small rooms is crucial to make the most of your living area. Start by decluttering and getting rid of any unnecessary items. Use storage solutions like under-bed storage, wall-mounted shelves, or multi-functional furniture to maximize storage space.

Choose light and neutral colors for walls and furniture to create an illusion of space. Mirrors can also help make a room appear larger by reflecting light and creating depth.

Consider using furniture that serves multiple purposes, such as a bed with built-in storage or a coffee table with hidden compartments. Opt for furniture with a sleek and minimalist design to avoid overwhelming the space.

Use vertical space by installing floating shelves or wall-mounted hooks to free up floor space. Utilize curtains or room dividers to separate different areas within the room without closing off the space completely.

Lastly, make use of natural light as much as possible. Keep windows unobstructed and use sheer curtains or blinds that allow light to pass through. Consider adding additional lighting sources like floor lamps or pendant lights to brighten up the room.
